Current artists on your management roster:

At Nomadic Fish my management / artist development duties are mashed in with tasks that would commonly be associated with booking, promotion and touring. The reverse is also true: rarely do I do just the bare bones of booking shows.  I usually get involved in the bigger picture, the artist's wider career and trajectory.  It's a mishmash that works for me, audiences and the artists that I represent.

How did you get into management?

After years as a graphic designer working for musicians and Coca-Cola, many midnight shifts at drop-in centres for street dwellers and heroin users, too many nights in venues of the inner west, and a long and winding trail of festivals, moving into management (and booking) was the next part of the adventure.

What do you see as the biggest challenge in 2015 for artist managers and/or their artists?

Riding the waves of change, continually figuring out how best to find and communicate with audiences and fans while staying sane and trying to communicate with each other calmly and clearly in the storm.

What is your hot tip for getting started in artist management:

Choose to work only with people you love: love their music, really get on with them as people, believe in their future, and be clear about roles and goals.

What is your hot tip for helping/sustaining your artist management business:

Be honourable in your dealings with everyone, and don't be ashamed to invoice for the work that you do.

Name 2 people within the music industry who have helped you get where you are:

Mic Conway (someone you might call a "legacy artist") opened all the first doors for me.
Neal Hunt - a fantastic friend and sounding board with whom I share a "cone of silence".

What are you currently listening to?

At this moment, the new album "Lucky Stars" from NZ artist, Don McGlashan.

Also, local bloke Colin Jones. His "Toledo, OH" has really gotten under my skin.
