EXCESS BAGGAGE FOR ARTISTS & MANAGERS

VIRGIN

In 2011 Virgin Australia announced a partnership with the contemporary music industry that saw a huge advancement for touring in Australia - offering free luggage to touring musicians. The AAM is a key partner with Virgin and this benefit is offered to AAM members and their artists.

Cite your AAM membership number to be eligible for a free baggage allowance of 32 kgs (across three pieces of checked baggage) for each individual artist - with an additional 32kg able to be purchased in advance for just $15. Bands will also now be able to 'pool' their baggage allowance across their travelling group.

To claim this benefit simply book your next Virgin flight through the portal to the left and email your confirmed itinerary and booking refernce to music@virginaustralia.com with your AAM Membership number.

Download the guidelines here, to find out your AAM Member number please email info@aam.org.au.

In 2012 Virgin has added to this deal, welcoming musical instruments as carry on. The new policy means that while the number or weight of standard pieces of luggage carreid on-board has not changed, the dimensions and type of instruments allowed on-board now includes most violins, trumpets and flutes.

Smaller and often more valuable musical instruments are now welcomed on-board to be placed in the overhead lockers.

Guests are now able to substitute any of their standard pieces of carry-on luggage for a musical instrument provided it was no larger than 85 cm in length and 34 cm in width and 23 cm in height.

 QANTAS

Eligible managers and their artists travelling on Qantas domestic services will be entitled to request in advance an additional baggage allowance of one piece weighing up to 23 kilograms free of charge, meaning they can double their baggage allowance to 46 kilograms. Business Class travellers and Qantas Club members will now be able to travel with two pieces of luggage weighing up to 62 kilograms. Musicians can also pre-purchase online up to two additional pieces of baggage at $20 per piece.

Since September last year, AAM members have been able to check in 32 kilograms of baggage across three pieces after a deal was negotiated between AAM & AMIN and Virgin Australia. Musicians were also allowed to pool their luggage among band members, and buy an additional 32 kilograms for $15 if booked 48 hours before departure.
