Are you an artist manager? Perhaps you are and don't even know it? Perhaps you are, and are navigating a vast industry feeling quite isolated and alone? Come and join us at the Association of Artist Managers (AAM), the peak body for artist managers in Australia. We're a tight-knit community of managers who support each other with advice, guidance, leads, tips and discussions. The AAM is also an organisation who represents your interests at a leadership level with our peers in the industry, and at a government level with the decision makers of this country. With over 400 Australian manager members, many working around the globe, the AAM's community represents over 1000 Australian artists and songwriters, including the biggest names in Australian music - Tones & I, Tame Impala, Paul Kelly, Tash Sultana, G Flip, Vance Joy, Courtney Barnett, Amyl & The Sniffers, The Teskey Brothers, The Temper Trap, Royel Otis, Thelma Plum, Ball Park Music, Birds of Tokyo, Genesis Owusu, The Rubens, Baker Boy, Kate Miller-Heidke, Daniel Johns, Powderfinger, Sarah Blasko, Jebediah, Spiderbait and many more.

Another benefit of becoming an AAM member is that you have access to a range of Professional Development programs to strengthen your skills and boost your confidence levels. Key professional development programs and activities have included; Co-Pilot Mentorship Program, First Nations Mentorship, Gimme Shelter Mental Health Program, Fast-track Fellowship (international program), Music Passport Program (international program), regional-specific development programs (including Walk This Way in Gold Coast and the NSW round tables), GROW (improving business skills for womxn), REVIVE (specialised mid-tier business development) and many more. The AAM is a current member of the International Music Managers Forum (IMMF) and an affiliate of the European Music Managers Alliance (EMMA). Through these connections we've been able to help our members with international networks, problem-solving and advocacy.

Membership Levels

ASSOCIATE

$99

  • Early career and start up artist managers.

  • Associate members can attend AAM annual meetings and events, and receive all AAM direct communications, but do not have voting rights at the AGM.

  • Eligible to apply for select AAM Professional Development programs.

GENERAL

$330

  • Professional artist managers, including those running their own management business. 

  • General members are invited to participate and hold a vote at the AGM and enjoy exclusive AAM presented general only member event and peer support activities. 

  • Eligible to apply for select AAM Professional Development programs.

EXECUTIVE*

$550

  • Established and commercially successful managers.

  • Eligible to nominate for a position on the AAM Board.

  • Each Executive member is entitled to one complimentary General membership for a staff member or business partner (valued at $330).

  • Executive Members receive an invite to the annual AAM Executive Members Dinner (food and drink covered by the AAM). 

  • Eligible to apply for select AAM Professional Development programs.

Additional Info

Each membership application must be wholly approved by the AAM's Board of Directors and an invoice for membership fees will then be raised for payment within 14 days. Invoice payment is required to initiate membership. Please allow 7 working days for your application to be processed. Membership fees are renewed annually on the date of first joining. 

All financial members enjoy the peer support of an exclusive online Facebook group and regular member only email newsletters of current news, funding and professional opportunities and resources.

Please note:

  • The AAM requires applicants to be actively managing at least one artist at the time of application.

  • Our organisation is not resourced at this point in time to support self-managed artists, either solo or groups, who only manage their own project. However, this is something we are exploring, so please keep an eye on our socials from time to time. If you are a self-managing artist who also manages other act(s) in addition to your own, you are welcome to join the AAM.

Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct is a tool to guide Association of Artist Managers (AAM) members through their management career, to promote and encourage the utmost ethical, professional and innovative artist management in Australia.

Members of the Association of Artist Managers shall aspire at all times and use their best endeavours to achieve each point outlined in the code. As a condition of membership in the AAM you agree to adhere to and to promote the AAM Code of Conduct to others.

  1. Devote sufficient time to fulfil the agreed responsibilities of management in the interests of the artists as both parties understand them;

  2. Possess and obtain the knowledge and skills to carry out the required duties of management as agreed and understood with the artists they represent;

  3. Communicate and negotiate with the artist their responsibilities, obligations, duties and remuneration as a manager of the artist and have those preferably notated in a written agreement.

  4. Seek support where required and commit to expanding their knowledge base and skills to assist in representing the artist’s career with diligence in all phases of the artist’s career;

  5. Operate and conduct their own management business and the artist’s business in a professional, transparent, accountable & ethical manner;

  6. Ensure relevant financial and legal matters are communicated to the artist and where relevant refer the artist to an independent, third party advisor specialising in such financial and legal matters;

  7. Uphold client confidentiality, ensuring appropriate use of information whilst exercising diligence and duty of care;

  8. Declare and fully disclose to an artist any conflict of interest whether it is actual, perceived or potential, including any income or other consideration earned by the manager directly or indirectly in conjunction with their artists’ performance or services.

  9. Ensure the commission rate agreed with the artist is in line with standard industry norms;

  10. Be aware of and operate within the parameters of any relevant State and Federal legislative requirements;

  11. Be culturally aware and act respectfully toward all the nationalities, religious, gender and ethnic groups;

  12. To not engage in any acts of sexual harassment including unwanted, unwelcome or uninvited behaviour of a sexual nature, which makes a person feel offended, humiliated or intimidated.
